The subway station is a daily ritual; a controlled pathway designed to move commuters as efficiently as possible on and off trains. The positioning of the 54 cast-bronze glove pieces of Glove Cycle echo the pattern and pauses of this ritual to make a sculptural narrative. Placed mostly at hand level, the sculptures encourage visual and physical connection. The narrative path follows commuters as they go underground and return to the surface, from the token booth to the train platform, creating a subway life cycle. The cycle brings commuters a sense of continuity as they move above and below ground. The sculptures call to mind gloves lost underneath winter snow and revealed again in spring seeming to have taken on a new life and history. In their odd and yet familiar scenes, the gloves reflect the human life around them.
